Shifting our thinking within the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Paul Hobcraft

I always enjoy selected parts of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos and in this year’s #WEF18 agenda , it certainly had its good points. Overhaul though, I was a little disappointed, as it lacked the real leadership insights you come to expect, strong personalities did not seem to shine through this year from the speakers and panelists give.

The Knowns and Unknowns of the Front End of Innovation

HYPE Innovation

The above quote is from the former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Henry Rumsfeld, who mentioned “unknown unknowns” (Rumsfeld, 2002). Since then, people have started using quadrants of knowledge, i.e., known known, known unknown, unknown known, and unknown unknown, to understand and explain the nature of risk but also of leading to an opportunity. For innovators so much of innovation is hard to detect, it needs discovery and working through these quadrants of knowledge as well.

Thank Heavens for Leaders who can Change their Minds

Destination Innovation

Why do we find it so hard to change our minds? Why are we so critical of people who do change their minds? Stalin. John Adair, the leadership expert, says that the most important (and often the most difficult) sentence for a leader to utter is, ’I admit that I was wrong.’ But on the rare occasions when political leaders change their minds they are accused in the media of flip-flopping, of doing a ‘U-turn’ or of lacking conviction.

It Doesn’t Have to Be the Way It Is

Tim Kastelle

Innovation is subversive Are you happy with the way things are right now? Probably not, if you’re reading blog posts about innovation. There’s likely something bothering you. It might be something small, or large. If we’re not happy with the status quo, there’s only one thing that will change it – doing something differently.

Munich Re offers a real clarity to their innovating future

Passion and executive commitment tap the well of ideas

Jeffrey Phillips

I had the opportunity recently to lead some training workshops with a midwestern company that is a leader in its field, but recognized it needed to do more to stay ahead of the competition. Frankly, sometimes leading innovation training feels like going through the motions - we innovators talk about innovation methods and tools, and the attendees listen politely then go back and do whatever it is they do day to day, and not much innovation happens.

How to bring ideas to life? After collecting, refining and reviewing ideas, now comes the big moment; you’re ready to start implementing those ideas. Similarly, Blockbuster experienced almost the exact same disruption.
