Virgin just invested in new supersonic jets which travel faster than Concorde

Idea to Value

Virgin will partner with Boom to buy 10 of its new supersonic aircraft, with ticket prices about the same as current business class. These innovative planes would be faster than the decommissioned Concorde service, able to fly from London to New York in about 3.4 hours, yet would be cheap enough to run that they would be economically competitive with normal airlines taking more than twice as long.

Key Issues in Innovation Management – Revisited – Part 1

Tim Kastelle

At the beginning of 2013, Tim Kastelle and I identified four key issues in innovation management for the time to come. From our point of view, all of the issues pinned down at that time have gained significant importance, are being intensively debated and can still be considered cutting-edge for companies to stay ahead in managing innovation. Let’s have a brief look at each of them: Differentiating and integrative innovation concepts.

Speaker: Alex Salazar, CEO & Co-Founder @ Arcade | Nate Barbettini, Founding Engineer @ Arcade | Tony Karrer, Founder & CTO @ Aggregage

If AI agents are going to deliver ROI, they need to move beyond chat and actually do things. But, turning a model into a reliable, secure workflow agent isn’t as simple as plugging in an API. In this new webinar, Alex Salazar and Nate Barbettini will break down the emerging AI architecture that makes action possible, and how it differs from traditional integration approaches.

Achieving a Level of Fluidity

Paul Hobcraft

There is this constant set of discussions about changing structures and models to become more adaptive, agile, lean, flexible and fluid; to react and deal with the increasing turbulence occurring all around us. We all sense this pressing need to react and become more responsive, becoming more adaptive to changing environments and business challenges, that are often unknown, unexpected, or not yet explored or exploited.

Experimenting with change before it happens

HYPE Innovation

The value of experiments for innovation is a topic we’ve previously covered here on the blog, and for good reason: if done well, experiments can help avoid some costly new product, service, process, and even business model mistakes. We’ve also written extensively about change , because managing innovation is nothing more than managing transitions and transformation s of all parties involved: customers, suppliers, internal stakeholders and even competition.

There's very little luck in innovation

Jeffrey Phillips

My good friend Paul Hobcraft wrote a nice piece recently about how corporations seem to experience innovation. He compared it to the game of snakes and ladders. In this country (the US) we recognize it as chutes and ladders, a game that allows a player to progress quickly if they land on a ladder, and regress quickly if they land on a chute. Paul notes that corporate innovation seems to reflect this experience, sometimes rapidly progressing, then just as rapidly relapsing.

Where Does Advantage Come From in the Social Era?

Tim Kastelle

Every day we hear about traditional industries being disrupted, about great new ideas that are creating growth, and about changes to the way we work. It sure seems as though the nature of business is changing these days. But is it, really? It turns out the answer is yes. I’ve done some research with Nilofer Merchant and Martie-Louise Verreynne looking at where advantage comes from now that we’re in the social era.

Innovation in the Boardroom

HYPE Innovation

How much focus should innovation efforts and capabilities have in the boardroom? I have been thinking about this after two recent interactions. First, I stumbled over this short intro in a press-release. “Three quarters (74%) of employees say their company does not have a strategy, process, and tools in place to encourage the sharing of ideas. As a result, one third of suggestions which could improve business ROI never even make it to the boardroom.”.

The innovation tipping point

Jeffrey Phillips

I've thought for a while now that we are on the brink of something big. That innovation will finally reach a tipping point, and like Europe in the Renaissance we'll finally leave the "dark ages" and innovation will flourish everywhere. Right now I believe that for many corporations, innovation is a mystery that seems to promise what we think impossible: more revenue, more profit, more market share at little cost.

Evaluating Crowdsourcing - has it a bright future?

It does have both the potential to point towards disrupting possibilities, extends the concept of open innovation into a wider source of participation from a diverse community not possible to reach by other means as effectively.
